Coaching psychologist with a background in education and leadership

Hello, I’m Chris, a psychologist specialising in coaching, leadership, and workplace wellbeing. With a diverse background in education, technology, and behaviour change, I create impactful development programmes for individuals and organisations.

As a psychometric Level B licensed practitioner, I use my skills and experience with these tools to offer deep insights and tailored solutions. My approach is rooted in evidence-based psychological practices. I’m a strengths-based coach, empowering individuals and organisations to achieve their full potential.

I partner with organisations to design and deliver bespoke programmes focusing on leadership, inclusive practices, and emotional intelligence. My work involves incorporating innovative learning design and fostering communities of practice.

Whether you want to enhance leadership capabilities, improve workplace wellbeing, or implement effective development programmes, I am dedicated to helping you achieve your goals. Get in touch to discuss how we can work together to create thriving and resilient individuals and workplaces. I focus on three main domains in my practice: Psychometrics, Leadership & coaching, and Learning design.

Psychometrics

Having studied organisational psychology, I know there are many psychometric profiling tools out there, designed to measure different aspects of personality and performance. When weighing up which tool to use, reliability and validity are important, as are the skills and experience of the person interpreting the data. As a qualified psychologist and licensed practitioner, I offer full service psychometric assessments, reporting and pre/post support.

The EQ-I 2.0 assessment provides a high level of detail with strong reliability and validity. This and the accompanying 360 tool gives great insight for individuals, leaders and teams. The results highlight strengths and areas for growth to complement initiatives in learning and development, leadership, careers and coaching. The EQ-i 2.0 is classified as a Level B Instrument by the BPS and the APA.

DiSC profiling is another valuable tool that focuses on understanding and improving behaviours in the workplace. It makes a good, straightforward starting point for analysing individuals and teams in the workplace, using a short assessment and simple reporting. It can be used alongside the EQ tool for scientifically robust results and deeper insight.

The VIA (Values in Action) tool looks at character strengths, using positive psychology as a framework. This is a great introduction to psychometrics for individuals and teams. It is a constructive and uplifting approach that concentrates on playing to strengths rather than focusing on gaps.

Leadership & coaching

I design, develop and deliver leadership training programmes for universities, colleges and private organisations. My years working in established public sector organisations, then latterly founding a successful private start up, means I have built up a wealth of experience in business, management and professional development. I use this knowledge to create programmes of learning and leadership for other organisations with proven results.

I recently wrote a development programme for the University of Glasgow to empower and develop leadership and interpersonal skills for professional services staff. Alongside subjects to help advance skills and careers, I created a community of practice and a culture of inclusion and belonging over the 6-month programme, which included individual and team coaching. This training package has been highly evaluated and I’m now working with the University of Dundee on the end-to-end management of their 2-year leadership development programme, including EQ and coaching.

As a qualified coach, my practice is underpinned by psychological ethics and theory. I strongly believe in evidence-based practice. I’m a member of the Division of Coaching Psychology who champion “…the scientific study and application of behaviour, cognition and emotion to deepen understanding of individuals’ and groups’ performance, achievement and wellbeing.”

I am also a qualified Action Learning coach, which is becoming a more popular way to bring people together to discuss their challenges in a safe space, and achieves excellent results.

Learning design

I began my career in workforce development with the NHS a few decades ago when web-based platforms were beginning to appear for learning management. Here, I worked with cutting-edge technologies for learning and development. I now partner with L&D departments in the public, private and third sectors. With strong pedagogical knowledge, I understand learners, how they learn and the whole process of creating engaging learning, from analysing training needs to design and development of material.

I have worked with the University of Edinburgh as a Digital Education Advisor and with University of the Arts London on their learner experience journey. I work with Digital Bricks Learning as a learning designer, using their award-winning platform to create materials for schools, colleges and universities throughout the country.

I am an expert in adult learning theories and ‘Train the Trainer’ methodologies. I regularly run sessions designed to teach others the skills and knowledge I’ve built up over the years, to enable them to teach others. I work with digital learning platforms to harness the power of technology to create equitable learning environments in the classroom and online. Overall, my driver is that everyone deserves the chance to learn, regardless of status, wealth or location.

I use my ethos of inclusion and belonging to create long lasting communities of practice with every project. I was invited to talk at Barcelona’s Business School about the importance of virtual learning environments. I design programmes of learning that are inclusive, adaptable and impactful.
